Many other car audio stores in the Valley and across the country would tell you that replacing the radio in this vehicle is simply not possible. This is because there is no installation kit listed for it in any fit guide, and even if there was, the factory radio is tied in with the climate control and navigation system of the vehicle. So, if you don’t like your factory radio, most would have you believe that you should get a new car! Well, as you may have come to know by now, we are not like most!
Having this Pioneer radio installed as part of a much more elaborate sound system was very important to the owner of this hybrid because we just got done doing the same system in her Tacoma and she wanted her user experience to be the same whichever car she chose to drive that day. Without giving away too many of our secrets, we were able to modify the factory radio to allow the existing navigation, climate control and energy management system to remain 100% functional. As far as making the new Pioneer radio look good in the dash, well that falls well within our custom fabrication capabilities. Check out some before and after pictures as well as a demonstration video below.

Hello, I have a Highlander Limited and would like to do a similar set up. Could you tell me the dash kit that you used or modified? Also, what did you use to retain the steering wheel controls? Much appreciated.

Hi –
I live in OR, which is unfortunately far from AZ., and I was wondering if its possible to put a back up camera and connect it to the factory navigation of a 2006 Highlander Hybrid. I like how you changed the stereo bc I don’t really own cassettes anymore 😉 Thanks
Handcrafted says
That might be doable, I’d have to look into it. Give us a shout at 480-550-8944 and we can see what we can do!

I put in a double din Sony WX-900BT aftermarket radio in my 2006 limited highlander WITH NAVIGATION. Stereo completely functional and sounds great, but the climate and all buttons associated with the climate system have no functions in the above nav/touch screen area. Would you be able to assist me in how to retain these functions. Called your shop today but have not heard back. Looking for help in New York.
Handcrafted says
Hey Austin, yes we can help you with that! Just give us a call or email sales@handcraftedaz.com and we can get you squared away.
