Sometimes the factory “upgraded” sound system, such as the JBL system found in this beautiful vehicle, just doesn’t do the vehicle or it’s owner justice! That was exactly the case when this vehicles owner brought it to us for a real upgrade!
After taking a listen to our demo vehicle, she new she had come to the right place and loved our unique ideas on how to give her the same experience in her own car. Phase one of her system included a couple of different points that were very important for the success of future upgrades while making the most of the initial investment. First of all, we used an iPod integration kit from Vaistech so that she could listen to her own music in her car without the burden of CD’s! Next, we built a custom ported subwoofer enclosure for a Hertz 10″ sub that took the place of the factory tool storage compartment, which is not necessary when you don’t have a spare tire to use the tools on! This allowed us to give her some much needed bass while still being able to bring home the groceries. We then installed a Hertz HDP5, our number one selling amplifier, which integrated seamlessly with the factory radio thanks to it’s hi level inputs and was used to power the new subwoofer and the factory speakers.
What’s that? Did I just say we amplified factory speakers? Yes I did! What most places won’t tell you is that the biggest problem with any factory sound system is the lack of power to allow the speakers to play the way they need to for music to sound the way it was intended to. They have these low power amplifiers running speakers that can take a bit more, so we give it to em, maximizing what you already own and laying the groundwork for future upgrades! You see, the sound is much better already and, when it comes time to upgrade those speakers, the amplifier is already in place!

Great work! Did you use any special interface for the amp?
Handcrafted says
Hey Tony, no we did not need any kind of special interface for this application. Since we were amplifying the factory speakers, we simply ran the factory amplifiers outputs into the HDP5s Hi Level inputs, making use of the factory crossovers so that the speakers don’t play any unwanted frequencies. It sounded great and, in about a month, we are going to upgrade the speakers and add a processor so that we can control crossover points and equalizer curves.

Sweet. Thanks for the info!
