I’m not gonna lie, this is a cool little car. But, we are in the process of making it even cooler! The first stage included adding a Push to Start option so that the vehicle can be started and stopped by the push of a button, rather than the turn of a key. To do this, we installed a very cool kit from a company called Advanced Keys. This system is comprised of two main units, one that handles the Push to Start functionality, and another that adds the convenience of a transponder based security system. In short, the car locks and unlocks itself as you approach or walk away from it! PTS systems always add a bit of complexity when it comes to the steering wheel lock feature which prevents the wheel from being turned when the key is not in the ignition and, being that we will not be using a key anymore, this presents a problem. The common solution is to cut the head off of the key, put the key into the ignition and turn it with a pair of needle nose pliers, then cover it up with a sticker! While this certainly works, we wanted a better approach and to find a way to offer up the traditional key as a back up in case of systems failure. So, we just removed the key lock entirely! Now, the PTS system can function like normally, but if you need to, you can insert the standard key and start the vehicle just the same.
We also installed a Compustar shock sensor, which detects breaking glass, and a Compustar Drone system to the mix for added security. The Drone system allows you to lock, unlock, remote start and track your vehicle in the event of a theft. Once the security system is triggered, the Drone system will send a command to your smartphone which will alert you to the trigger. At that point, you can open the Drone app and check the location of the vehicle on the built in Google Map and notify the police of the vehicles location with the GPS Coordinates that the Drone system gives you. Pretty cool eh? Check out the video below.
