The owner of this 2005 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy won a LED lighting upgrade package we donated to a local charity event. The event was a motorcycle ride to support children’s cancer research. Everyone who participated in the ride donated their time and hard-earned money to this great cause, so we were happy to support them by donating this upgrade package.
Headlights And Switchback Upgrades
The LED upgrade package includes a Supernova H4 LED headlight bulb, and Supernova 3157 LED switchback turn signals for the front of the bike. If you haven’t seen switchbacks in action – you should! When you are riding, they are a bright white driving light. When you activate the turn signals, they switch to a flashing amber light. We installed clear lenses on the turn signals to ensure the new lights are as bright as possible.
Beam Pattern Check Is Important Part Of The Upgrade
Every time we install a new headlight, we check the beam pattern. There are some lenses that don’t cooperate well with non-incandescent bulbs. This Fat Boy looked great with the new LED headlight installed and the beam pattern is correct and won’t blind oncoming drivers. Ensuring that other drivers on the road can see safely is as important as the rider being able to see. Blinding them as they approach dramatically increases your risk of being in a serious accident.
Rear Brake Light Upgrade
We provided a LED brake light bulb upgrade for the rear of the bike with the giveaway package. The client decided that he wanted to upgrade his center brake light to a layback style from Kuryakyn. The new light includes LED illumination and a smoked gray lens that accented his bike beautifully. We installed a module from Kuryakyn that converts the factory rear turn signals and taillight into run/stop/turn functionality for increased visibility. After all, bright lights save lives! The lighting controller is quite compact and includes the correct connectors to plug into the factory wiring harness. The controller also includes the option to flash the brake light automatically, or just keep it illuminated solidly. The manufacturer calls the flashing features the ‘pulse brake.’
Client Loved His New Fat Boy Lighting
The client loved the way the bike looked with the switchback bulbs in the front. He was amazed at how changing a few light bulbs transformed the look of his motorcycle. The best part, LED lighting is brighter – making it easier for you to see where you are going.
