No audio system is complete without a subwoofer, and this one is no exception! This particular vehicle, however, needed to be able to retain as much of the usable trunk space as possible for strollers and groceries. So, we decided to build a custom enclosure that would be suspended from the rear deck!
This vehicle has a factory subwoofer in this location already, so there was absolutely no cutting involved! We removed the factory subwoofer and replaced it with a new Hertz 8″ sub, mounted in the same position. To improve low frequency response, we built an enclosure for the new sub. This enclosure was hung from the rear deck and bolted in place with 8 1/4’20” threaded bolts with locking washers. Before putting the plastic rear deck panel back on, we applied some sound deadening material to it and the metal frame to keep it from vibrating and also to help seal off the subwoofer from the trunk. It sounded excellent and there was no space lost. We call that a win-win!

what is the total volume of that box?
do you think it would be possible to do a vented enclosure mounted the same way.??

Ya know I can’t quite remember, but I know the sub was a Hertz Energy 8″ and we generally shoot for about 3/4 of a cubic foot for that sub. I would say that building a ported version of this enclosure can definitely be done.

Would this item or similar be available for sale?

Hey Tommy,
Unfortunately we didn’t make a template of this, so it can’t be reproduced so easily. If you live close to us, we can certainly take care of it for you.
