Many clients who come to Handcrafted Car Audio ask us why their Harley-Davidson audio systems sound so bad. Dealing with factory audio systems that don’t sound very good is our specialty. From the cheap speakers, tiny power amplifiers and strange tuning, it’s a wonder people turn these systems on at all. Creating awesome Harley-Davidson audio systems has made us the experts in motorcycle audio in the Chandler and Phoenix, Arizona, area.
No Power Means No Fun
Whether you are cruising the interstate or just taking a run across town, it takes power to allow you to turn up your audio system so you can hear it over wind and traffic noise. Harley audio systems are underpowered. We can fix that by adding an amplifier to your bike. We have many compact models that will fit inside the front fairing and will be completely invisible. Having extra power means you can enjoy your music at a comfortable level without distortion.
Better Speakers, Better Sound
If you are going to upgrade any audio system, then the most important aspect is the speakers. Just like automakers, Harley-Davidson chooses speakers based on cost, not performance. They may be “good enough” for some, but not for anyone who is serious about enjoying their music while they ride. We carry several different brands of amazing speakers, each with different models at different price points. Better speakers can handle more power and play louder. They have more accurate frequency response and, therefore, sound more realistic. Good speakers are the only link between your stereo system and your ears.
If you really want to rock out, then we can easily add more speakers to your bike. We can add new saddlebag lid speaker mounts and new speakers under the front fairing, beside the rear seat or in the touring pack. The addition of more speakers, combined with power from a good-quality amplifier, makes a dramatic difference in how loud your system plays. Having more speakers also means that each speaker doesn’t have to work as hard. Having more speakers improves the overall sound quality of the system.
Harley-Davidson Audio: It’s All In The Tune
Harley-Davidson includes some very strange equalization in their radios. At best, their tuning sounds mediocre. If left alone, the system sounds horrible when we add amplifiers and new speakers.
On some bikes, we can work with the Harley dealer to turn off the equalization curve. In newer bikes, the equalization can’t be undone. In these instances, we have products available that can strip the music of the added equalization, giving us a better source from which to build.
We can then use the Bluetooth/navigation radio that comes with many new cruisers to build an amazing-sounding audio system.
