A new client from Queen Creek, Arizona, came to Handcrafted Car Audio looking to get a set of Amp Research power steps for his 2015 Chevy Silverado. He had contacted the manufacturer, and they referred him to us. When he came to see us, we gave him a tour of our facility. He got to see our operation and our current projects in detail, and sat in some of our demo vehicles. After seeing how good a car stereo system could sound, he decided to upgrade the audio system in his truck along with adding the power steps. We worked up a proposal for the Silverado upgrades based on his needs and goals, and he liked our ideas. At that point, we scheduled an installation appointment.
Amp Research Power Steps Add Entry/Exit Safety
Right out of the gate, we installed the Amp Research power steps. This is a unique product in that the steps are invisible unless you are using them. When you walk up to the vehicle and open one of the doors, the steps motorize down 6 inches in less than a second. You now have a safe, secure place to place your foot when entering and exiting the vehicle. Two to three seconds after the door you close the door, the steps retract back up into their closed position. We installed Rigid LED Lighting that illuminates when the doors are open, giving the client great visibility around the steps at night.
Audison Processor Integrates Our System With The Factory Radio
When it came time for the sound upgrades, we left the original Chevy stereo in the dash and added an Audison Bit10D processor, which does several things. It strips the musical signal of the added equalization that Chevy puts in the music. They do this to try to make a cheap speaker sound better. Unfortunately, when that equalized signal gets used with good speakers, it sounds lousy. We call this De-EQing the music.
Now we had great music from which to build. We chose to use a full, active sound system, meaning that every speaker has its own dedicated amplifier channel. Now, we could have dedicated equalization, crossover points and time delay for every speaker, maximizing the sound improvement for the driver. We have been using processors since the day we opened our doors and are experts in fine-tuning them to extract every last ounce of sound quality.
For power, we went back to Hertz, using their HDP5 amplifier. It supplies more than 700 watts of clean power, giving the client an almost limitless amount of output. We made a custom amp rack to house the amplifier and processor behind the rear seat, resulting in no loss of storage space.
Hertz Speakers Improve Sound Quality
We installed Hertz HSK165.3 speakers in the factory locations in the front of the vehicle and made custom mounts for the drivers. We also applied Stinger Roadkill to the doors to dampen any resonance that may occur when the high-performance speakers are used.
Audiomobile Subwoofer Provides Authoritative Bass In Small Space
When it came time for bass, we chose an Audiomobile EVO8, mounted in a compact downfiring enclosure between the front seats. Again, our customer lost no usable space in the vehicle, while gaining real, authoritative bass.
Great Sound And More Safety For This Client
When the client came to pick up his truck, he was thrilled with the quality of the installation and our ability to preserve his space. When he cranked it up for the first time, it took him back to his favorite concert experience. We knew he was going to be spending lots of time listening to great music in his truck. The power steps were the icing on the cake.
