One of the greatest things about riding a motorcycle is the feeling of being one with the road. Everything from the wind in your hair to the sounds and smells of nature make it a great experience. Unfortunately, that experience goes bad the instant you turn on your motorcycle audio system. The good news is that Handcrafted Car Audio is a specialist at improving your bike stereo system. We have taken our years of experience in working on them and riding them ourselves, and broken it down into three logical steps for great sounding motorcycle audio.
Speaker Upgrade
The first place to spend money on your motorcycle audio system is in the speakers. One look at the stock speakers on your bike, compared to the offerings here at Handcrafted, will tell the story. Your stock speakers are weak and anemic. When you ride up the road, they sound very flat due to the road noise. On many bikes, we can increase the speaker size to give you additional output and, of course, we can add extra speakers for greater volume potential. The new speakers will dramatically improve the sound quality of the music coming out of your stereo system, and set you up perfectly for Stage Two of the upgrade.
More Power
Now that you have better speakers installed in your bike, you need power. And lots of it. Think about it this way: When you are driving up the road in your car or truck, how loud is it inside the vehicle? Now compare that to the road noise you experience on your motorcycle. Big difference, huh?
For you to hear your music clearly while riding up the road on your motorcycle at speed, you need several times the power in your current stereo. To make things more interesting, you don’t have the luxury of hiding a large amplifier on your bike the way you do in your truck, so the amp has to be small physically, but powerful as well.
Your bike also has a much smaller charging system than one in a car or truck, so the amplifier has to be very efficient if it is going to work properly for you. Sounds complicated, doesn’t it? No problem here, since Handcrafted works with the leading amplifier manufacturers and has cutting-edge products that will fit in the tight confines of your bike and work with its limited electrical capacity just fine.
Now you have better speakers and more power, so what is left?
Processor Upgrade
A processor, or DSP, allows us to do many things to the stereo system on your bike. At the core, it lets us build you a system that sounds better, plays louder and is more reliable. If you own a 2014 or newer Harley, the factory stereo has an awful equalization circuit that they add to the music to try to make their cheap speakers sound better. Once you start adding better equipment, that EQ curve will negatively affect the sound. The processor lets us remove the EQ circuit from the music and then custom-tune your new speakers to your specific bike, musical preferences and riding style. The end result can be a stereo system that sounds 50% better than one without a processor. Our technicians tune your stereo system using a laptop and sophisticated measuring equipment, as seen in the photographs.
One More Thing For Great Sounding Motorcycle Audio
It’s important to remember that these three stages will make your stereo system come alive on your bike, but they mean nothing without a proper installation. Our standards are the highest in the industry. We use only metal or composites for all of our speaker and amplifier mounts, coupled with stainless hardware and soldered connections. We do all of this to give you an installation designed to take the vibration, dust and moisture of life on the road.
We invite you to stop by Handcrafted Car Audio in Chandler. Our team will work one on one with you to design and build the motorcycle audio system that best fits your needs.
